Museo d'arte sacra Staurós

Museum | Isola Del Gran Sasso D'Italia | Abruzzi | Italy

The "Museo d'Arte Sacra Staurós" in Isola del Gran Sasso d'Italia is the first museum of contemporary sacred art in Italy. It was opened in 1994 in the modern building of the Sanctuary of San Gabriele dell'Addolorata and originated from the Biennale for sacred art that took place in Pescara in 1984. The museum was founded by the "Staurós International Association," an organization established in 1973 to promote the connection between the Christian world and contemporary forms of expression.

The collection includes about a thousand works, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, prints, watercolors, and photographs that deal with themes of sacred art and architecture. Featured artists include Pierluigi Abbondanza, Enrico Accatino, Ugo Attardi, Remo Brindisi, Umberto Mastroianni, and Alberto Sughi. These works reflect the diversity and creativity of contemporary sacred art and offer a unique insight into the spiritual dimension of the modern art scene.

A visit to the museum allows you to experience the innovative fusion of religious themes and contemporary art forms and appreciate the rich history and significance of the Sanctuary of San Gabriele dell'Addolorata.
